About

Natembea (nah-tem-BAY-ah) – Swahili for walking, as on a journey of discovery.

Natembea is a breathtakingly beautiful 97-acre expanse of pasture, woods and wetlands on the edge of Port Townsend in Washington State.

In 2016 Devon and David Pablo Cohn purchased the land from the Swanson family with the mission of

  1. preserving it as open space
  2. for community benefit
  3. in a way that honors its history as a family farm.

We’re still taking our first baby steps in this long and already-rewarding process and are grateful for the outpouring of support we’ve received from the Jefferson County Land Trust, WSU Farm Extension, Conservation District, National Resource Conservation Service, City and County offices and the warm and welcoming farmers of the peninsula.
